Overview



Coinbase is considered the largest cryptocurrency exchange in the US. Founded in 2012, it listed on the Nasdaq exchange (NASDAQ: COIN) recently in April 2021. The platform supports about 60 cryptocurrencies (availability may vary by region), and serves over 50 million users across more than 100 countries. That's fewer currencies than Binance, but the major currencies are there of course, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Binance Coin, Litecoin etc.

Payment methods differ by region. US customers have access to bank account (ACH), debit card, wire transfer, and PayPal. Singapore users can only use credit and debit cards (Visa/Master) - it's recommended to use a debit card to avoid incurring any potential cash advance fee, and since it's unlikely that banks will award credit card rewards for this merchant category code anyway. However, Singapore and Australian users cannot currently sell their crypto on Coinbase. This is because credit/debit cards is the only payment method, and Coinbase is unable to transfer funds back to cards. Users can, however, send their digital currencies to other wallets or exchanges from Coinbase.

Transaction fees

Fees are charged either at a percentage fee or flat rate, whichever is higher. The flat rates depend on the transaction amount, as follows:
  • Less than $10: $0.99
  • Above $10 and up to $25: $1.49
  • Above $25 and up to $50: $1.99
  • Above $50 and up to $200: $2.99
The numerical amounts are the same across US dollars, Euros, Pounds, and Singapore dollars.

Coinbase has an earning program, whereby users can watch videos to earn crypto rewards
